Again a very rocky place with black volcanic sand from nearby Mt. Taranaki. It dominates the skyline round here and when you can see it, its an amazing site. Its a spit image of Mt. Fuji in Japan. The coastline is a bit like aberystwyth whereby the sands black/grey and its quite rocky so youve gotta pick your lines right with getting out.
After a bit of a struggle getting out past the point to find some wind, it was really gusty and wasnt that enjoyable. Some runs were a bit too overpowered and the whole setup of my kit is not suited to this place at all. The boards a slalom board ands its way too big for this place. My sails more a slalom sail rather than a wave sail and I dont have a wave fin so it was very uncomfortable spinning out after every little bit of chop almost. Off to Carbon Art tomorrow thats located nearby to maybe get a cheap wave board if ive got the money and definately a wave fin.
Also managed to tear the very bottom of my sail slightly so its been temporarily gaffer taped up.
